The 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E has a larger battery capacity and a longer range.
According to the updated order guide, the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E will have higher usable battery capacity, resulting in a longer range.
There is an overall energy capacity and an usable capacity for battery packs. The energy that the car can use to power itself is referred to as usable capacity.
When it comes to battery packs in their first electric cars, legacy automakers have a reputation for being overly cautious. They feature a large buffer, which reduces efficiency because you are carrying a large part of the battery pack that you are not using.
After a few years, though, some automakers appear to gain confidence in their battery packs and begin to unlock some of its capacity. The Jaguar I-Pace and the Audi e-tron are two examples of this.
It appears that this is now happening with Ford's Mustang Mach-E.
The 2022 Mustang Mach-E Order Guide has leaked on the Mach-E forum, showing an increase in usable energy capacity in both battery packs:
- The standard range now has an useful capacity of 70 kWh (up from 68kWh in the 2021MY vehicles)
- The extended range now has an useful capacity of 91 kWh (up from 88kWh in the 2021MY vehicle)
We contacted Ford about the changes and will provide an update once we receive a response.
This adjustment should result in a 10 mile gain in range across the spectrum, with the higher-end version reaching over 300 miles on a single charge.
A few colour and interior package options have been added to the new 2022 model. The new Mustang Mach-E for 2022 is set to hit dealerships before the end of the year.
