Bhediya Movie Review -Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon starrer rides on Comedy

Bhaskar (Varun Dhawan) is bitten by a wolf while visiting Arunachal Pradesh for a forest road project on a special but magical night that occurs once a year. He develops wolf-like characteristics as a result of the bite and has the ability to transform into a werewolf in certain circumstances. On this journey to discover the animal within him, he is joined by Anika (Kriti Sanon), Panda (Deepak Dobriyal), Janardhan (Abhishek Banerjee) and Jomin (Paalin Kabaak). What is the point of his transformation into a werewolf?  What will become of the forest road project? What are the reactions of Anika, Panda, Janardhan, and Jomin to his transformation? In Bhediya, all questions are answered.

Bhediya has a novel idea, which has never been seen before in Hindi cinema. The vision of making a creature comedy comes to life on screen thanks to the polished visual effects, which result in some great cinematic shots. It has some of the best visual effects for a Hindi film, not in terms of scale, but in terms of technicality. The 3D also adds to the experience, especially in the scenes with the wolf. The first half of the film and the first few frames of the post-interval scenes rely on some genuinely funny gags. Varun Dhawan, Abhishek Banerjee, Deepak Dobriyal, and Paalin Kabaak's interactions are frequently entertaining.

Bhediya also works because of Amar and his writer, Niren Bhatt, who are able to convey a message without being preachy. The post-credit scene is a laugh riot that ensures you leave the hall smiling. The music sets the mood for Bhediya and fits in perfectly with the world of Arunachal Pradesh.

The core idea of Bhediya had a lot of potential to grow into something much bigger, especially in the second half, but the team isn't exactly capable of taking the conflict to the next level in terms of execution. The director and writer take too long to give Bhaskar's redemption arc, which results in you not rooting for the protagonist for the majority of the story. The central conflict of man vs. man is not well established, and the romantic track does not pique the audience's interest. The pre-climax episode drags, and while the climax is a brave and out-of-the-box attempt, it doesn't exactly take the conventional route to appease everyone.

On the performance front, Bhediya checks all the boxes. Varun Dhawan carries the film on his shoulders and excels in the transformation scenes. He has mastered the formula of mouthing one-liners with conviction and also performs well in the film's dramatic moments. Kriti Sanon has limited screen time, but her character adds a new dimension to the story as it progresses. With his dialogue delivery, Abhishek Banerjee is hilarious and lifts the tempo of the film. Paalin Kabaak shines in the second half, while Deepak Dobriyal is dependable as Panda. Saurabh Shukla's role in the story is limited.

Final Thoughts:

Bhediya relies heavily on gags, visual effects, and performances, but the second half could have used a bigger conflict between a hero and a villain. Despite its flaws, it is a fairly entertaining watch for young people and families who want to see something different from the Hindi Film Industry on the big screen.
