Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla TSLA, has announced that the company's headquarters will be shifted to Texas

Elon Musk said that Tesla will relocate its headquarters to Austin, Texas, as he has previously promised.

Musk stated during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic that Tesla would leave California because of the limits that made it difficult for the automaker to begin manufacturing.

Tesla said soon after that it will establish a big manufacturing and complex near Austin, but the company's headquarters would stay in Palo Alto.

Musk has moved his headquarters to Texas, and there have been suggestions that Tesla will soon follow.

Tesla's CEO said that the company's headquarters will be shifted to Austin at the company's 2021 shareholder meeting.

Musk, on the other hand, made it clear that Tesla would continue to expand its presence in California:

We're continuing to increase our business in California; we're not leaving, but we're reaching the bowl's top.

Tesla wants to increase vehicle production at its Fremont factory by 50%, according to Musk.

This time, the CEO avoided discussing California politics, instead stating that Tesla "went as far as it could in the Bay Area."

Employees are having a hard time affording homes, he said, and he believes Tesla will be more competitive in Austin.

Musk didn't say where Tesla's headquarters will be in Austin, but it appears to be near the Gigafactory Texas location, as the CEO mentioned the "ecological paradise" that they aim to build there again.

Tesla's CEO previously defined the Gigafactory Austin site as follows:

It's around 2,000 acres, and we're going to turn it into a beautiful factory. It is located directly on the Colorado River. So we're going to build a boardwalk with a hiking/biking track. It will essentially be an ecological paradise, complete with birds in the trees, butterflies, and fish in the stream, and it will be open to the public. So it's not closed, and it's just Tesla.

There was no announcement on when the headquarters would be relocated.
