Vmoto's Super Soco electric scooters have been a popular two-wheeled electric vehicle alternative on numerous continents, and the company's largest and most powerful model is finally arriving to North America.
The Super Soco CPx will be available in Canada.
While Super Soco's electric motorbike versions are marginally faster, the company's CPx maxiscooter is the most powerful of Vmoto's high-powered utility scooters.
With a top speed of 90 km/h (55.9 mph), the scooter is capable of commuting on both city and suburban roads. For short jaunts, very daring riders may meander into tiny highways.
The Super Soco CPx was designed to compete with 125cc scooters, and so far has proven to be a popular option in many countries since its 2020 launch.
Electrek was on site at its 2019 unveiling in Milan, where we predicted that it would open the market for these higher-powered and faster electric scooters.
Now Canadians will be the first North Americans to get a taste of the new scooter when it is imported and sold in the country by Motorino Electric Cycles.
The scooter's price in Canada will be determined by the battery configuration. There are two variants to choose from, each with a single or double battery pack.
The scooter with a single 2.7 kWh battery costs CAD $6,900 (US $5,470), while the dual-battery version costs CAD $8,700 (US $6,890). The car will be covered by a two-year warranty, while the battery and motor will be covered by a three-year warranty.
The twin battery type has a battery capacity of 5.4 kWh and is rated for 150 km (93 miles) of range per charge.
The battery packs are also detachable, allowing them to be charged without having to leave the scooter. Riders who do not have access to a ground level wall plug, such as apartment dwellers, may find this beneficial.
The CPx has substantially larger wheels than other 125cc scooters, measuring 16′′ in front and 14′′ in back.
It also features a rather large seat that may comfortably accommodate two people.
However, the scooter's features aren't its only benefit. Many new riders will be interested in its Canadian vehicle classification. The scooter can be set to comply with Limited Speed Motorcycle legislation, which limit the maximum speed to 70 km/h (43.5 mph) and just require a conventional driver's licence to operate — no motorcycle licence is necessary.
According to the dealer, the scooter's 4,000 W continuous power can be "set to a max continuous power of 1,500 W without compromising its max power and torque."
In the engineering part of my brain, that raises a lot of red flags (“continuous power” on an electric scooter is a somewhat arbitrary number thrown out there to regulators and for spec sheets, whereas “peak power” is an actual programmed limit that can be both calculated and measured), but I'll leave it to them to figure it out.
In any case, this will be great news to a North American market in desperate need of more medium and high-speed electric scooter options. While Canada is currently the belle of the ball, Americans will undoubtedly be the next to experience Super Soco's electric scooters and motorcycles.
Perhaps that day is closer than we believe.
