Meet the GOVA C0, a seated electric scooter created by NIU with women in mind.

The GOVA C0 features a number of unique features, one of which is that it is the first seated electric scooter made particularly for women. This electric scooter is one of NIU's newest offerings, as the company continues to lead the luxury electric scooter market.

In the West, you usually think of NIU when you think of a smart electric scooter. There aren't many options on the market right now, especially in the United States. By being the first mover in the luxury space, NIU appears to have controlled the modest but rising American e-scooter market.

NIU has a number of different domestic market models that have only been presented in the company's native market of China, in addition to the fascinating, tech-y scooters shipped to the Americas and Europe.

One of these versions is the GOVA C0 women's scooter.

The GOVA line debuted in 2019 as a new, lower-cost line that merged NIU's high-quality parts and production into lower-cost models that missed some of NIU's flagship models' higher performance and fancier features. The GOVA scooters are 30-50 percent less expensive than NIU's mid-tier M-series scooters and roughly 80% less expensive than the flagship N-series.

The GOVA C0 is comparable to a number of other GOVA models, however it does have a few distinguishing features.

The scooter received a redesign that incorporates a pair of new C-shaped headlights that give it a considerably prettier appearance than the model line's more utility-oriented scooters. These kinds of charming designs are very popular in Asian markets.

The seat height of the scooter is only 740 mm (29 inches). The scooter's sales page is in Mandarin, but according to Google Translate, NIU advertises the seat height as "more comfortable sitting height for women."

Anecdotal evidence suggests that this is most likely correct. My wife tried out my NIU NGT scooter but found it to be a little too high to ride comfortably. Her other criticism was that my scooter, as well as the replaceable batteries, felt weighty to her.

That could also explain two other significant features of the GOVA C0 scooter: a low curb weight and a smaller battery than NIU's larger packs.

The GOVA C0 scooter weighs 75 kg (165 lb) and has a single 48V 14Ah battery that weighs only 5.6 kg (12.3 lb). The battery's maximum range is claimed to be 50-60 kilometres (31-37 miles).

The C0's battery pack includes over a dozen built-in protections, including low and high temperature protections, over and under discharge protections, and short circuit protections, just like NIU's other batteries.

The battery is linked with a motor that is only capable of 400W of continuous power. Given that the lightweight scooter is supposed to meet electric bicycle rules with a top speed of only 25 km/h (15 mph), 400 W is more than likely adequate, even if it isn't exhilarating.

The working pedals meet the e-bike standards, allowing riders to operate the scooter without a driver's licence or a moped licence. With a small passenger seat on the back, the GOVA C0 transforms into a vehicle that appears to be capable of transporting a child.

Although the scooter is smaller and lighter than other of NIU's models, it still includes much of the embedded technology that distinguishes the company's products. The connected smartphone app also contains GPS tracking with a built-in anti-theft alarm and a number of telemetry-based features that use the scooter's travel data and sensor network to offer real-time information on riders' phones.

The GOVA C0, unlike most of NIU's other scooters, comes in a few pastel colours: pink, blue, and white. There's a little too much there, but what can you do?

The GOVA C0 is priced at $3,399 in its home market, or roughly $525 in the United States. It only started shipping last month and recently earned a special mention from NIU's CEO Yan Li during a review of the company's financial results for the second quarter of 2021:

In July, we began shipping another new model C0, which was created particularly for female clients.

The scooter, according to Li, has contributed to a better product mix in NIU's lineup, as evidenced by recent sales results of lower and higher cost models.
