Audi announces its ‘Vorsprung 2030' electrification strategy, with ICE models set to expire in 2033.

Audi has announced goals to become a sustainable, social, and technological leader by 2030 as part of its ongoing car electrification journey. This is all part of Audi's new "Vorsprung 2030" business plan, which promises to speed the automaker's electrified transformation, which was earlier scheduled for 2026. Audi will also continue to phase out internal combustion engine (ICE) car production, which is expected to stop in 2033.

Audi is a well-known German automobile and a Volkswagen Group company. Audi first announced a significant investment to shift to electric vehicles in 2018. This was followed by a blast of marketing for its e-tron electric sedans and SUVs.

Audi announced a $12 billion investment to advance the electrification of its vehicles at the end of 2019. Audi's e-tron brand currently includes a fleet of current and upcoming electric vehicles, with more on the way.

For the past 50 years, Audi's company slogan has been "Vorsprung durch Technik," which translates to "Progress through Technology." Audi plans to develop its electrification strategy with new and more ambitious goals by 2030, based on this company ethos.

Audi announces its electrification strategy, "Vorsprung 2030."

Audi just released a statement release announcing a more ambitious electrification goal termed "Vorsprung 2030." Markus Duesmann, CEO of Audi, discussed the new company strategy and what it includes:

Because we can only solve many of the world's key challenges, such as carbon emissions and global warming, through the employment of clean technology, ‘Vorsprung durch Technik' remains important. We see ourselves as a company that offers our customers' independence and individual mobility. We don't just develop technology for the sake of it. It must be strong and effective in order to keep the world moving.

Audi's board of directors collaborated with chief strategist Silja Pieh, her team, and over 500 Audi employees in the United States and China to examine more than 600 mobility trends that are relevant to the firm until 2030. As a result, the company is focusing on long-term sustainability in all aspects of production.

Furthermore, Audi has set a 2033 deadline for the manufacturing of all ICE vehicles. Of course, the automaker will continue to service those (ancient) vehicles for the rest of its life.

Another key focus will be on creating a platform for its electric fleet, which will feature autonomous driving and seamless updates, giving future Audis an unique DNA.

CARIAD, the Volkswagen Group's software arm, will develop a scalable software platform with an uniform operating system and cloud connectivity for all of the company's brands by 2025, according to the press release. Duesmann spoke up once more:

The E3 2.0 software platform will be the engine for future synergies and innovations, such as autonomous driving.

Audi will continue to phase out ICE vehicles before the 2033 deadline, while focusing on the "Vorsprung 2030" means to promote an innovation and inclusive culture around the Audi brand.
